Drawn to Words Exhibit

(Text from Buzzword Newsletter)

Drawn to Words: Drawings & Illustrations from the Bluegrass Drawing Society Goes on Display November 23rd

Monday, November 23, 2009-Saturday, December 26, 2009 the Bluegrass Drawing Society (formerly known as the Winchester Drawing Society) will exhibit drawings and illustrations that have been inspired by works of literature, poetry, song lyrics, and philosophy. The artwork in Drawn to Words represents a variety of styles and techniques ranging from abstraction and realism to art nouveau- inspired illustration, and the sequential art found in graphic novels and comics. Some of the artwork was created in response to the various subjects and genres found in written sources while other pieces were created from the artist’s own ‘words to inspire’. Featured in this exhibit are works from BDS members Rebecca Chamberlain, Denise Knoebel, Christopher Newman, and Cindy Williams.

The Bluegrass Drawing Society Exhibit will be on display in the Library Community Room during normal Library hours, except times when the room is being used for a meeting. There will be a reception for the artists, Friday, December 11, from 5:30-7 pm. Please plan to attend and meet some of the most talented artists in the Bluegrass.

June Drawing Classes

Monday Evenings at the Clark County Public Library: June 1, 8, 15, 22 at 6:30 pm Taught by Rebecca Chamberlain

Drawing for beginners is designed for anyone who has ever wanted to learn the basics of drawing. The four week summer class will begin with exercises designed to train your eye and hand as well as inspire your imagination. Students will learn about shapes, shading, contour drawing, and negative space. This class will be a step-by-step introduction to drawing and is well suited for people with little or no drawing background as well as for artists who might like a refresher course in what Michelangelo called, “the foundation of all art.” When you sign up, please ask for the list of supplies you will need. The instructor will provide all drawing handouts and additional tools.

Local artist Rebecca Chamberlain has taught private drawing classes in Winchester for fourteen years. Her drawings and paintings can be found in private collections in Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, and Arkansas. Rebecca is co-founder and President of the Winchester Drawing Society.

This class is free and open to the public, but participation is limited to 12, so you must register to attend. Register at 859-744-5661.

Thank You!

The WDS would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to John Maruskin and the rest of the staff at the Clark County Public Library for welcoming the group with open arms.

Our first official group exhibit was a great success and very well received by the public. We would also like to thank everyone who made a special trip to see the show and left such encouraging comments in the guest book. As artists, we put our souls out for the world to see and critique so to be embraced by the community is humbling and truly an honor. We look forward to future exhibits at the Clark County library and other venues in the surrounding areas. Please check the blog as we will post all up and coming shows on this site.

Again, Thank YOU!
